Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School is an Interdistrict Middle School with an emphasis on the arts. It is designed to meet the needs of a population diverse in culture, academic skills and learning styles. It is an environment where every child can begin to realize and appreciate his or her individual development. Children are taught to see, think and learn in ways they have never been exposed to previously.

Eleven Betsy Ross language students competed in the statewide COLT foreign language poetry recitation contest in April.  In it, students recite a poem in their chosen language from memory.  This year’s contest was at Wilbur Cross High School , here in New Haven .  There were 1,033 participating students representing 99 different Connecticut schools.  3 students from Betsy Ross won 2 nd place medals!  New Haven won 78 medals in all!  The study of languages is clearly alive and well here in New Haven!  Congratulations to all participating students!

Betsy Ross 6 th grade French students participated in the CT COLT Rhyme Celebration for students in grades Pre-K -6.  There were 15 different languages represented at this event!  Students recite poems and sing songs in their chosen language.  Nine Betsy Ross students participated. Giving Back to the Community

The students of room 182 worked to help the New Haven Diaper Bank, which gives diapers to families in need. The students created awareness by speaking in classrooms and creating a commerical that was shown at BRAMS. Dollars and diapers were collected providing enough diapers for a family for almost a year.

Positive Behavior Support

The Positive Behavior Support Team has been implementing a behavior plan that recognizes students who display positive behavior. Each week students are being honored with certificates, gift cards, and a variety of items that are raffled off. Each month, students who are in the top 10% of "Caught You Being Good" ticket earners are invited to a recognition celebration.
