Is Betsy Ross the right school for my child?
If your child has an interest in the arts and is motivated to learn, than Betsy Ross could be right for your family. Students do not need to have an arts background to be accepted to Betsy Ross. Students of all levels are selected at random during a lottery process. Therefore, all students who are enthusiastic about dance, theatre, visual arts, and music are highly encouraged to apply. We look forward to bringing out the absolute best in your child.
What is expected and what to expect ?
Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School has established a high academic expectation for all students. Every students takes the four main content areas daily, that includes language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. While some students take an enrichment language arts program, most students participate in a foreign language. Challenging goals are set and it is expected that students meet set standards.
While all five of the mentioned classes are taken daily, students also have an one hour arts class each day. The arts classes are upheld to the same high expectation as the academic classes. Students will have the opportunity to take each of the four main arts classes, that is music, dance, visual art, and theatre. Two days a week students will take an emphasis class, which is one arts area to focus upon. The other three days a week students take each of the other arts classes.
Students attending Betsy Ross all know that teachers, staff, and administration insist upon acceptable behavior at all times. Expectations are set high and it is insisted upon that they are upheld.
Parental involvement is a big part of Betsy Ross's success. Students work extremely hard all year to produce great work both academically and artistically. It is important that families are a part of each of these successes. Families are expected to participate in parent-teacher conferences, chaperone trips and parades, attend performances, and be attentive to the student's academic needs. Betsy Ross is proud of the relationship they have built with the families of their students and looks forward to welcoming you to that family.

How does the selection process work?
Betsy Ross participates in a lottery process. Applicants are selected at random depending upon the availability per grade level. Students do not have to have an arts background or arts experience, only an interest in the arts. Approximately 60%of the students selected are new Haven students and the remaining 40% of the student population will be selected from the 30 participating towns. No sibling preference is not given at Betsy Ross. A student is not guaranteed acceptance because a sibling already attends the school.
