FAQ: (As of Aug 25, 2020)
How do I get my ID and log-in information? On the day of the Drive Thru students will receive their student ID and log-in information. Students ID's are the same as last year if you were already in the New Haven Public School System. When will laptops be given out? During our Drive Thru times, laptops will be provided. Grades 7th and 8th - Monday, 8/31/2020 12:00-3:00 p.m. Grades 5th and 6th - Tuesday 9/1/2020 12:00-3:00 p.m. What about laptops for new students or current student that do not have a computer? We will provide all students with a laptop that do not have one. Are we getting chargers for the Chromebooks? A cord will be with every chrome book to charge the device. Is it OK I don't have a web camera on my computer? Yes, because students cameras will be turned off. If you may need one, we can provide a Chromebook. There was an email about getting the old Chromebook reprogrammed, how would this happen? Bring the chrome book to the Drive-Thru and we will swap it out. Are we having all arts classes or just our emphasis? We are providing emphasis classes only. How will we receive our schedule? Are they in PowerSchool? All returning students have schedules in PowerSchool and we will be providing a hard copy during the Drive Thru Pickup. New student do not have a completed schedule at this time but they will be ready before the first day of school. What platform is the district using for the students? NHPS will be using Google Classroom as the platform for all classes. We will also be using other Google extensions for teaching and learning. Are the students getting real grades this time or just pass/fail? Grades are required for the 2020-2021 school year. Students will be receiving grades during remote learning. Is attendance require every day? Attendance will be accounted for everyday and in every class. If we have a Chromebook already, what is the process? All Chromebooks need to be accounted for throughout the district. If you have a Chromebook from another building, you need to contact them to see if you need to return it for their current enrollment. If you have a Chromebook from Betsy Ross, we will be sending out a form soon to get all the information regarding the Chromebook. How long is a remote school day? 9:15 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. What time do the children have to log in? Students will start the day at 9:15am in their Homeroom. They can start logging on at 9:00am. Will there be an actual time to log-in or are they going to be allowed to log in at any time? All students will log-in by 9:15am and will follow their schedule throughout the day. Is remote learning a full day or half day of school? Remote learning will be a full day with lunch and breaks. Students will follow their schedule. Is there a remote learning schedule? Students will follow their schedule and teachers will teach live Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday students will have a shortened day and be on Google Classroom for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) or additional support. Will we have T.A.G. this year? We will have TAG once a week. How will we know if changes occur in the school or we go back full time or hybrid? We will be in contact will all parents as soon as we know. Please make sure all your contact information is up to date in PowerSchool. You can contact us if you have not received any information at this time. Who do we contact to trouble shoot our PowerSchool accounts or computer issues? There are going to be trouble shooting hotlines for parents and students by the district. Where do we learn about all the various emphasis classes? Ms. Petriccione is currently contacting families to understand the different emphasis programs and make selections. How do we get the information to the Department of Health? You may bring documents or physicals to the Drive Thru and we will process them with the school nurse. How can I find out if my child’s forms from a previous magnet school has transferred to BRAMS? School Forms are not transferred but district records are transferred at the beginning of the school year. Who can I call to speak to someone regarding specific questions with my students? Call the main office so we can direct you with correct person. We will get back to you as soon as possible if we are not available at that time. |
